Mismatch/tolerance for power = 0 ~ 3V
Pmax STC = 380 W
Short circuit current at STC = 10.22 A
𝛼Isc_I = 0.00511 V C⁻¹
fclean = 0.96
fshade = 1.00
Similar to Step 1 Choose PV Module
fmm i is power de-rate factor due to mismatch (decimal)
Take worst case.
Convert to decimal if need
fmm i = [ ( Pmax STC - Power tolerance(W) ) / Pmax STC] / 100%
fmm i = [ 100% - Power tolerance(%) ] / 100%
Power tolerance = +0 W
fmm i= [ ( 380-0 ) / 380 ] / 100% = 1
𝛼Isc Temperature coefficient for short circuit current (% °C⁻¹ or % K⁻¹)
𝛼Isc_I Temperature coefficient for short circuit current (A°C⁻¹ or AK⁻¹)
Isc STC Short circuit current of the PV module at STC (A)
𝛼Isc = (0.00511 VC⁻¹ / 10.22 A) *100% = 0.05%C⁻¹
fclean = (100 % - Dirt Loss %) /100
Dirt loss value is subjective in real life, around 3%-5%
fclean = 0.96 (Question Provided)
fshade = (100 % - Shading Loss %) /100
Shading loss may find through shading profile test in real life, refer to Step 3 Shading Profile .
fshade = 1.00 (Question Provided)
Isc array = Isc STC X Np
Isc array stc Array short circuit current of the PV module at STC (V)
Np is Number of parallel-connected modules, exp:
Two modules in series, Np = 1
Two modules in parallel, Np = 2
Instrument: Fluke 317/319 Clamp Meters | Fluke
Steps:
Checking the sticker on the cable of the solar panel is recommended. The sticker will label the positive or negative terminal.
Generally, the positive terminal of the solar panel is connected to the MC4 male connector.
The negative terminal of the solar panel is connected to the MC4 female connector.
Connect hardware (One module, Two module in series, Two module in parallel)
The clamp meter can be reversed, ignore the sign.
Clamp meter change to DC current mode 40A⎓ (or other value depends on clamp meter model).
Press Zero to reset the clamp meter
Clamp at MC4 connector.
Press Hold button on clamp meter
Isc array measured usually will be lower 1/2 than to Isc array stc due to ageing.
Different solar modules and instruments were used in these videos, so the reading is not same as assumption and calculation.
One module
Two module in series
Two module in parallel
Instrument: Solar Survey 200R Irradiance Meter | Seaward
Criteria: >350 Wm⁻² only record
Steps:
Press ON/OFF two buttons at the same time to power on
Press Hold for hold the reading
Press ON/OFF two buttons at the same time to power off
Instrument: Acision IRT-3101 Infrared Thermometer
Steps:
Press the thermometer
Point the red dot to PV module
[Correction in video] The thermometer should be perpendicular to PV module.
Release the thermometer
Isc array expected Expected short circuit current of the PV module (V)
Tmod Step 2.7 PV Module temperature (°C)
Gi ref Step 2.6 Solar irradiance (Wm⁻²)
Assume one module, Tmod = 53.1 °C, solar irradiance = 549 Wm⁻²
Criteria: %Isc deviation ± 5% consider pass, if lower suggest retest
Assume Isc array measured = 5.5 A
